Newbie Introduction to the World Wide Web

Dr. Samuel Johnson once remarked, "Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information upon it."

Some people might consider all this web terminology mumbo-jumbo. For some of us, it is just that. Sometimes you just don't want to get involved in it. You look for website builder package that is simple yet powerful to get your website done in a hurry.

That is why I use Voda Utilities for building and parking my website. I have given these descriptions not only to explain web terminology but to make a point as well.

However, it's good to know the terminology. Hey! Like Jerry would say "Not that there is anything wrong with it." Who knows may be you use them sometime or at least converse with someone at a minimum.

What is Bit? What is Byte?
This is yet another attempt to explain bits and bytes. The computer and communication equipments use bits and bytes.

What is Bandwidth, Network Connection, Traffic?
Get familiarized with bandwidth, network connection and website traffic.

What Is Website?
In general, a website is made up of, quite often, many web pages. Sometimes it is just one page. A web page is basically composed of texts and graphic images and on some websites, you see lots of videos as well.

What Is IP Address?
Every dwelling in the U.S. has a unique identifying address -  country.state.city.street address. Every machine on the Internet has a unique identifying number, called an IP Address. IP, by the way, is Internet Protocol.

What Is JavaScript?
Javascript code is a scripting language designed for use within a web page and/or on a web server. It is used to create special effects within a web page. Links, images and forms can all be manipulated using this powerful technology.

What Is Web Server?
Right now, you are sitting at a computer and viewing this page in a browser. Either you clicked on the link for this page, or typed in its URL (Uniform Resource Locator).

What Is PHP?
PHP (recursive acronym for "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor") is a widely-used Open Source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML.
