You need to submit your website to directories

Basic concept of directories

Submitting your website to directories is a great way to promote and build back links & increase your SERPs ranking. SERPs is an acronymn for Search Engine Results Pages and by improving the quality of your backlinks you can receive massive amounts of traffic to your site and improved exposure in search engines.

Submitting to a Search Engine Friendly Directory is an ideal start for any promotional campaign to achieve the maximum result.

Deep linking is one of the best ways to get your website noticed and indexed fast by the search engines.

Having trouble finding a good SEO friendly directory list? You are not alone! Many well established website directories can take months to review your submission requests, and most of these established web directories have strict listing standards.

In the menu on the left, you will find our free website directory listings. Most of the free web directories on this list are new, while others have been recently discovered. We will continually add to this directory list, so please check back often.

Webmasters, you can start submitting your websites to over 5,000 web directories and over 500 article directories using the menu.

The highest PageRank directory websites are not always the best. Use your judgment as in some cases PR is not everything.  If a free directory has been around for a year or more, has high PR but has relatively few listings then chances are that they are not adding many, or any free submissions. These directories may also offer reciprocal or paid submissions. Some directories call themselves free to get you to the site but their intention is to sell you paid listings.

An average directory can  receive between five and twenty thousand free submissions per year.  Some of these sites are either overwhelmed with submissions or the site really only intends to publish paid listings.  New directory sites are often more eager to list your website. The reward comes for years in the future as the directory grows and gains value. Your site may be listed at the top.

As you can see on the menu, we have included a Master Directory List that has over 5,000 directories listed by alphabets. Along with that, other lists consist of Niche, Paid, Bid directories.

We have also included directory lists that contain only articles on different subjects. Get some good quality topic-related links back to your website by writing an article and submitting it to the sites listed in our article directory list. Submitting articles can not only get you links, but could get you some serious traffic if your article is picked up by a big website or ezine.

Click on Niche Article Directory list where you can submit your articles to directories on topics of Business, Finance, Travel etc.

Criteria for quality directory
Submitting to directories is the first step in website promotion. Directories usually only accept sites that offer quality information. Because websites submitted to directories are mostly reviewed by humans, sites that are of low quality rarely get accepted. This is a straight-forward simple to understand internet marketing activity which can be performed by any website owner.

Search Engines Optimization (SEO) gurus suggest the following major characteristics in a directory:

Selection - Quality is better than quantity.

Built for humans not SEs - If the list is intended to serve human visitors, there's a far better chance that search engines would want to index the links.

High Quality Links - Directories that have earned lots of high quality links from editorially robust sources are likely to carry far more value than those whose links stem from directory lists, SEO-centric communities or paid/affiliate links.

Unique - Several directories seem to be clones of DMOZ in terms of layout and organization. Try to stay away from them.

Specific, not General - If you can find a specific directory, for example, Health, Golf and your website is on that specific topic, then you have much better chance to be indexed by search engines.

Spam, low quality sites - Run the MSN command linkfromdomain:url.com in Windows Live Search and take a peek through a few dozen pages of listings. If you see domains that you wouldn't want to link to on your site, chances are good that the directory might not be as worthwhile as you hope. Note: replace url.com with the actual address of the directory. For example, linkfromdomain:allthewebsites.org.
