Roomy Khan’s lawyer didn’t return calls for comment

Beware.

Who the heck is Roomy Khan? Never heard of Khan before. The name came into the light of the day last Thursday as if Khan was living in a dark hole. On the second thought maybe Khan was living in a dark hole. [If you notice, I am not calling Khan by he or she because I cannot tell the gender from the name.] I have always wondered about the U.S. Attorneys’ responsibilities, apart from prosecuting Madoff and the schmucks like him in terms of what exactly they do with the taxpayers’ money. Well! I gotta hand it to them. This time the folks in the New York Attorney General’s office have done it again. They have done a good job investigating and looking into the criminal minds of the accused.

Here is how the story goes. The financial newspapers and magazines have reported that

prosecutors in New York charged 14 additional people with crimes Thursday, including lawyers, a former Moody’s Investors Service analyst and the founder of trading firm Incremental Capital, in an expanding insider-trading probe that had identified some $40 million in improper profits.

Wow! That’s what I call the cream of the crop. Or are they? I take that back. The schmucks of the world cannot be the cream of the crop.

The names with the criminal minds – the alleged criminal minds – are public knowledge. They are not the Who’s Who by any means. They probably don’t even have Who’s Who for criminal minds. Any way, here are their names:

  1. Raj Rajaratnam, founder of hedge-fund firm Galleon Group
  2. Zvi Goffer, founder of Incremental Capital
  3. Arthur Cutillo, an intellectual-property lawyer at Ropes & Gray LLP
  4. Jason Goldfarb, an associated at another New York law?firm
  5. Craig Drimal, who worked in Galleon’s office space, but wasn’t employed by the firm [You will get paid just by sitting here???]
  6. Ali Hariri, Atheros Communications Inc. (ATHR) executive
  7. Emanuel Goffer, Michael Kimelman, David Plate - several individuals associated with Incremental Capital.
  8. Deep Shah, a former Moody’s analyst who allegedly passed information to Roomy Khan, was among the nine charged Thursday
  9. I must have missed some names because the total appears to be 10 plus Roomy Khan. They are supposed to be 14. Three names are missing from this list. But the schmucks – or the alleged schmucks – cannot hide anywhere. They may have skipped my list but the most important is the U.S. Attorney’s list.

Moral of the story
I searched for Incremental Capital in my favorite search engine. One of the results says “This may harm your computer.” I say it should have been more like “This may harm your wallet.”

What do you think?
